Summer of 09

This summer was supposed to be spent on the upstairs...there are a lot of supposed tos...

First, the gutters HAD to go up...then we really NEEDED stairs on the deck and front porch (it is amazing that the mail-man didn't stop delivery at our house since he had to climb up the porch every day). That of course took a while. Then, we had to finish the trim painting (we only finished the front for the show...).

Steve did finally make it to the upstairs for the "not so sexy" part of the build; all of the stuff that is in the walls and it is difficult to see progress (i.e. wiring, plumbing and duct-work). Well, he got the wiring done and the duct-work too and swears he will never do duct-work again (but we know better don't we.)

The new furnace and AC went in last week! ( Thank you Paul Stafford Electric, Heating, and Cooling.) It hangs from the ceiling above the laundry (to reduce vibration) and is supposed to be a very high efficient and the quietest furnace on the market. Hopefully it will live up to that!

So...next comes the BIG drywall party! Are you busy next weekend?

Renovation Nation

At the end of May, Renovation Nation, the "green" remodeling TV show from Planet Green Channel came to film our front sidewalk project. We used VAST pavers for the walk.

It was a lot o work to get ready for the show and then to film as well. The crew was great and it was a kick to meet and work with Steve Thomas!

Hard work

Here we are with 4 colors done and the last one (brown trim) going on...This is day 6 of the painting project.

We painted for 3 solid weekends straight trying to get the house painted before Renovation Nation showed up. We finished the front with help from several of our friends. Yes...these are good friends.

Before the painting started, it was gray...

Very gray!

Check out the deck in the back. We used Trex so that we would never have to stain another deck again!

Progress

The drywall was installed in the kitchen in December 2008. We went from that to a functional kitchen by February 2009.

Check out the stove, a Bertazzoni, professional grade stove. I LOVE it and so does everyone that comes over for dinner!

We worked with Thelen Cabinet Company on the custom cabinets.

Foley Construction created the counters, which are made out of recycled glass in concrete.

New kitchen

Doesn't the kitchen look better already? Wow...we have room to move. It's wired and plumbed...so now all I need is the professional grade stove!

Siding is done.

The exterior is done, except for the paint and stucco repair. We used fiber cement siding for the 2nd story.

The neighbors should be so happy that they don't have to look at the house wrap!

That is a LOT of windows!

Here they are installed. Joe's crew is great! We worked with Davis and Davis Design and Build
Steve helped install all of the windows in the new kitchen.
Windows in, the extension of the chimney is finished, and the roof is done!
Here is the hole Steve dug and the timbers he put in for the egress window. Thanks for the help Andrew!
